History of Costa Rica
In the early 16th century a beautiful Spanish speaking colony, Costa Rica was born and remained a colony for two and a half centuries. In 1821 this small colony declared independence from Spain to become their own country on September 15th 1821 and became part of Central America. Costa Rica has an extremely low birth rate compared to surrounding countries although the highest literacy test results. The country of Costa Rica is extremely diverse, there are over 500,000 different types of species making Costa Rica rank 20th in all of the world. There is also extreme diversity in culture and wealth, high, low and middle class. Costa Rica is extremely well known for their geography, tourism, culture and government.
